The design was created by developing a map projection of the earth with the South Pole at the centre. This is necessary because the earth rotates clockwise as viewed from the South Pole.
This clock is supplied with the hour hand glued to the map at the owners time meridian. An example is that for people living in Eastern Australia the hour hand is glued to the map over longitude 150 degrees East. Then, when the clock is set correctly, it's easy to read off the current local time around the World, for the owner in Eastern Australia.
